Hilton Head Island officials cracking down on neighborhoods

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) - Hilton Head Island is cracking down on a neighborhood that left carpet remains to create a path over some sand dunes.

The Folley Field subdivision is now being cited by town officials.

Earlier in the year, the Hilton Head officials also made the Lawton Beach neighborhood do the same thing.

Town attorney, Brian Hulbert says island and state rules are clear: carpeting isn't appropriate for a walkway to the beach.

The town is giving Folly Field homeowners until June to get rid of the carpet or face a fine of $500.
