BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC)- Families, friends and teachers are mourning two Lowcountry high school students who were killed in a crash over the weekend.
They were killed Saturday night along Seaside Road on St. Helena Island in Beaufort County. South Carolina Highway Patrol said that somehow the teens' car left the road, flipped over and slammed into tree.
Driver 18-year-old Chelsie Faulk and front seat passenger 15-year-old Kayleeana Hudson-Banks, both Beaufort High School students, died at the scene.
A third teenager was taken to Memorial University Medical Center. Her condition or name hasn't been released. A neighbor who saved the girl's life told WTOC what happened. He heard the crash nearby and ran to the crash to help.
"The seat had her pinned up and she kept screaming, ‘Please get me out, please get me out'. I said, ‘Are your legs broken?' and then she said, ‘I think my legs are broken'. I said, ‘Can you feel my hand?' She said, ‘Yes, I can feel your hand'. So I said, ‘Do you want to follow me out this way?' and she said, ‘Yes, I can come out'. So I said, ‘back up, back up slowly'.
Troopers with the SCHP said speed was a factor in the crash, but that they were all teens were wearing seatbelts and that alcohol was not involved.
