SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Mail carriers here in the Coastal Empire and around the nation carried a lot more than envelopes on Saturday.
The post office helped out with the annual food drive, "Stamp Out Hunger." Homeowners left food donations by their mailboxes or at the post office for area food banks.
Shannon Jones, Chief Development Officer for Georgia Golden Harvest, says, "the reason we really need it now is it's summer time and our food levels do tend to go down just a little bit."
Georgia Golden Harvest received 117,000 lbs of food last year and hoped for even more goods this year.
Wilber Towler of Augusta explains, "If this little donation that I made will help change somebody's everyday life, I'm a happy camper."
This is the 20th year for the food drive.
