Officials consider installing metal detectors at Beaufort Co. schools

BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC)- Some big decisions are being made in lowcountry schools one week after one student brought a loaded gun and knives to Bluffton High School.

Parents and school leaders are talking about whether or not metal detectors would make a difference.

One school board members says installing metal detectors would be an over-reaction. Others say they want to give the topic more thought.

The middle and high schools in Beaufort County do have armed school resource officers on campus.

BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC)- A strong political comeback Tuesday night in the Lowcountry as former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford reclaimed the 1st Congressional District seat he held from 1995 to 2001.

Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch conceded as the ultimate outcome became clear fairly early on and the victor acknowledged his own remarkable recovery from scandal.
