HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC)- Many are getting their plaid on for the RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing as the golf tournament officially got underway with the opening ceremony Monday.

While the tournament's name has changed, the traditions have stayed the same. In addition to all of the plaid, there is a sea of blue now that RBC and Boeing stepped up to the plate to keep the annual event a tradition on the island.

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC)- In just a few weeks, the Independence Fund will bring 25 severely wounded Iraq and Afghanistan veterans to the Lowcountry for a special week of golf.

It's all part of the inaugural Healing Heroes Golf Week, where the veterans will hit the links at a number of different golf courses throughout the Lowcountry. Organizers say it's an important event.

"No. 1 is to raise awareness of the needs of our veterans and the second purpose is to raise $17,000 to buy one paramobile device," said Dick Clark of the Independence Fund.
