Beaufort Co. schools budget meeting set

BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC)- Beaufort County could be facing school budget cuts and the board wants to hear from you tonight.

A public hearing was held on Tuesday night as the Beaufort County School Board met with parents at Battery Creek High School. Over the last three years, the board has eliminated 169 positions and another 45 are on the chopping block this year. The district is being asked to cut $6 million from next year's budget.

Vendors at RBC Heritage raise money for charities, organizations

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC)- All eyes at on Hilton Head Island this week for the RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing and that means good news for lots of charities in the area.

Each year, the tournament generates more than $1 million for local charities. Many organizations, like the Sunset Rotary Club that operates the 19th Hole concession stand, depend on the money they raise from the tournament to help a number of worthy causes.

While most come to enjoy the atmosphere and the golf,  there's a lot that happens behind the scenes during the week of the tournament.

Budget focus of 2 Beaufort Co. school meetings

BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC)- Beaufort County parents and community members can weigh in on the school district's proposed budget in two meetings this week.

The first forum will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Battery Creek High School. The next meeting takes place at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bluffton High School.

An estimated $6 million in cuts are projected to be needed in 2012-13 to keep expenditures at roughly the same level as the current fiscal year – not including additional revenues, according to the school district.
