Hilton Head Island wins Cardiac Care Award

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC)- Hilton Head Island is now a Heart
Safe Community. Hilton Head Island Fire and Rescue presented the town council
with a Cardiac Care Award Tuesday. Chief Lavarn Lucas brought the award home
from the International Association of Fire Chiefs Convention in Las Vegas.
Hilton Head Island was one of 6,000 communities eligible for the award.

Beaufort Co. School Board to meet

BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC)- The Beaufort County School Board will be tacking the budget on Tuesday night. They are considering a number of proposals.

One thing on their agenda is incorporating iPads in the classroom. Riverview Charter School is already using the devices in its classrooms. The district is looking at purchasing 8,000 iPads for all of the county's high schools and middle schools. 

It's all part of the school district's college and career readiness plan for next year to help students achieve.

Man sought on criminal sexual misconduct charges

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC)- A Hilton Head Island man is wanted on sexual assault charges.

Austin Anthony Mandikas, 19, is wanted on two counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor.

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office said the charges stem from assault of a 13-year-old girl. The victim reported having sexual encounters on more than one occasion at two different locations with Mandikas between February and March 2012, according to the sheriff's office.
